Lullaby for Pi to Premiere at Pusan International Film Festival

September 7, 2010 (Regina, SK) Minds Eye Entertainment announced earlier today that their highly anticipated feature film Lullaby for Pi has been chosen as an official selection of the Pusan International Film Festival in South Korea from October 7 to 15, 2010.

This will be the world premiere for the film starring Rupert Friend (The Young Victoria), Clémence Poésy (In Bruges) and Academy Award-winner Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland).

Sam (Rupert Friend) is a reclusive and complicated man whose only friend is George (Forest Whitaker), the compassionate and well-intentioned manager of a downtrodden New York City hotel.

Once a promising jazz musician, Sam now spends his nights secluded in a hotel room in an attempt to reconcile the death of his beloved wife Josephine (Sarah Wayne Callies) until an unexpected visitor rushes into his room and locks herself in his bathroom. As mysterious as her mathematical moniker, Pi (Clémence Poésy) takes Sam on a journey of self-discovery through the door of the hotel room bath.

The screenplay was authored by director Benoît Philippon.

Jean-Charles Lévy (Forecast Pictures) and Kevin DeWalt (Minds Eye Entertainment) produced alongside Christine Vachon of Killer Films. The film was co-produced by Frédérique Dumas of Studio 37 and is a Canada-France Treaty Co-production.

Newcomer Matt Ward stars as William, Sam's young protégé. The film features original music from Charlie Winston.

The film was shot in Regina, Saskatchewan and Winnipeg, Manitoba.

291 Film Company's Documentary Saskatchewan River Delta Double Nominee at the 2010 Gemini Awards

Regina, Saskatchewan (September 2, 2010). Regina-based 291Film Company is pleased to announce that its nature documentary Saskatchewan River Delta (SCN, Oasis HD) has been nominated for two 2010 Gemini Awards:

-Best Photography in a Documentary Program or Series
 Ian Toews; Saskatchewan River Delta

-Best Sound in an Information/Documentary Program or Series
Cary Ciesielski, Lucas Hart, David j. Taylor; Saskatchewan River Delta

This marks the first photography nomination for Ian Toews, following three Gemini nominations and one win in 2008 for the company's long-running arts and nature series Landscape as Muse (Bravo!, SCN, Knowledge, Access, CBC documentary/bold).

Photography has always been of primary importance to Toews, who named his company, 291, after photographer Alfred Stieglitzs famous New York City gallery of the same name.

"My documentaries are created by, and for, their imagery first and foremost. It's always been that way. So, this  nomination recognizes what is at the core of my creative process... Also, I'm particularly pleased to have my long time friend and collaborator Cary get recognition from the Academy."
- Ian Toews, Producer/Director/DOP

This marks the first Gemini nomination for sound designers Cary Ciesielski, Lucas Hart, and David j. Taylor of Regina's Twisted Pair Sound. Said Ciesielski:

"I've been working with Ian for over a decade, going back to University. I've long enjoyed working on his projects because there is always fabulous imagery to design sound around... On this one, I simply told the guys (Luc and David) to make it sound real, to sound alive -- as it would if you were in the middle of that delta..."
- Cary Ciesielski, Supervising Sound Editor

Narrated by Tantoo Cardinal, the hour-long documentary explores the vast Saskatchewan River Delta in four seasons from the perspectives of culture, science, and nature. Travelling by air, ground, and water with the many people who live and work there, we visit Canada's largest inland delta one of the largest unbroken wetlands left on Earth.

291 Film Company is currently in production on the first season of Untamed Gourmet (co-created by Toews and Ciesielski) for APTN and SCN. It is in development on the series Great Minds of Design for CBC documentary.

Saskatchewan River Delta will be presented at the upcoming Saskatchewan River Delta Symposium in The Pas, Manitoba. September 14, 6:30 PM

Saskatchewan River Delta was produced with the participation of SCN, Oasis HD, the Canada Media Fund, SaskFilm, The Saskatchewan Film Employment Tax Credit, The Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit, and the Department of Canadian Heritage.

To find out for herself, she returns to his funky warehouse apartment - full of love, desire, magic and the location of her last memory.
