The Industry

From creating jobs and youth retention to international recognition and acclaim, the Film and Television Industry in Saskatchewan showcases the province as no other industry can. The Saskatchewan landscapes, people and way of life appear on televisions, movie screens and on digital devices the world over.

The work of Saskatchewan crews and technicians graces the credits of films that have enjoyed weeks of North American and European cinematic release; its creative strength and quality recognized by peers worldwide with numerous awards. Saskatchewan youth and actors have worked with world-class directors such as Sam Raimi and Terry Gilliam.

In 2008/09, 40 projects were completed, 129 hours of programming created and over 40 national or international awards were won. Saskatchewan is home to over 25 production companies and at any given time their projects are screening in over 175 countries.

The industry has truly helped to define a Saskatchewan that makes citizens of the province proud.

Economic Impact

The Saskatchewan film and television industry has grown in production volume from $17 million in 1999/00 to almost $62 million in 2008/09. Throughout these years, it has continued to generate creative industry jobs and retain youth through increased employment and has attracted high-profile projects with a need for Saskatchewan’s goods and services. In 2008/09, the sector’s production levels stimulated nearly $75 million of economic activity and created over 1,200 jobs in the province.
